Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how James Erringham-Bruce, a sole trader trading as Kernyard (“Kernyard”, “we”, “us”) handles information in connection with Finance Ledger for Mac and the website at finance-ledger.kernyard.com. It is important to separate what the website may process from what the desktop app stores on your Mac.

Effective date: 9 September 2026.

Who is responsible

The data controller is James Erringham-Bruce, a sole trader trading as Kernyard, in England and Wales, United Kingdom.

Privacy questions: madebykernyard@gmail.com

Finance Ledger for Mac

Finance Ledger is a local-first personal finance app. Your financial records—budgets, accounts, debts, goals, transactions and related money data—are stored on your Mac. The app does not require a bank connection and does not need your online banking credentials.

Because those records stay on your device under the app’s local-first design, Kernyard does not receive or see your in-app financial data.

This website

The Finance Ledger marketing and purchase website does not offer user accounts, newsletters or first-party analytics. We do not run a separate signup form that collects your email beyond what is needed for payment.

When you buy Finance Ledger, payment is handled by Stripe Checkout on Stripe’s hosted pages. We do not collect card details on this site. Stripe processes payment information as described in Stripe’s Privacy Policy.

To complete your purchase and deliver the download, we may process:

We do not use this information for marketing profiles or advertising. It is used only to run the storefront, take payment through Stripe and deliver the software you bought.

Cookies

This website does not set non-essential first-party cookies for analytics or advertising. Stripe may set cookies on its own Checkout pages when you pay; those are controlled by Stripe under its policies.

Why we process information and legal bases

Where UK data protection law applies, we rely on:

Retention

Payment and fulfilment records are kept only as long as needed to complete delivery, handle support about a purchase, meet legal or accounting requirements, and protect against abuse. Short-lived download links expire quickly by design. Server logs are kept for a limited operational period.

Processors and international transfers

We use Stripe for payments and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to store and deliver the installer securely. Those providers may process data in the UK, EU, United States or other countries. Where transfers outside the UK occur, we rely on appropriate safeguards used by those providers (such as standard contractual clauses) as described in their documentation.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to certain processing, and to data portability, depending on the circumstances. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

To exercise a right, email madebykernyard@gmail.com. We may need to verify your request. Rights do not always apply in full (for example where we must keep payment records).

Children

Finance Ledger and this website are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children in connection with purchases.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy when the product or storefront changes. The effective date at the top of this page will be revised when we do. Continued use of the website or purchase of the software after a change means you should read the updated policy.
